1994-01-24 - Monday - Back to the old routine of Prakash waking me up etc. Now playing (the music over the Brindavan Hostel PA system in the mornings and evenings) on 45 PTM (amplifier) with SHARP (cassette) player. Many features like APSS (search), dubbing, etc. Only eject is harsh. Thankfully, the day wasn't too crowded - Physics, Awareness, Sanskrit, Chemistry. Didn't leave any pages in notes - will stick papers at appropriate places instead (for the notes of those days I missed classes, being at Parthi for the drama.) My handwriting suffers with ceramic tip pens - A3 (parents and sister) had given a blue and a green Luxor complement pens - they have the feel of ink pens. Met Sai Giridhar Sir and asked for permission to record 2 cassettes - relief. Also for Balaji to play night prayer just for today. Finally - he wasn't prompt - when I reached AVC, after some rooms started prayer, he put it on. Apparently some sort of meeting - quite a few third year guys there.
1994-01-25 - Tuesday - Swami's grace flowing so much - woke up at 4 on the dot. So, could do Linear Analysis (LA) notes - copying from Suresh's. No jogging till mid-semester (exams). So, did some more. Although I didn't have notes of aberration theory classes, didn't "see stars", but could take down things intelligently. Math mostly revision oriented - in Awareness hall, classroom repairs ongoing. Similarly, Energy and enthusiasm - alert throughout Narahari Sir's class, and at the end of it, was prepared for two more hours (I didn't realize it was 3rd hour!) Sanskrit class self study. Had a wash, LA, from Hostel. L. Kesavan and Raja Ganesh Chemical Kinetics doubt clearing, in the Mathematics of it. No evening music, as National Games closing ceremony was being shown on TV. Ravi Kumar Sir's speech - have faith, don't be lizards. Terrible cold. Driving license photostat (arrived by post) from A3.
1994-01-26 - Wednesday - Republic day - Naya Daur cassette from Subramaniam Sir + Rahi Manuva. After Suprabhatam, Mera Bharat Mahan collection. Finally no bath at 7:30, breakfast 7.55. 8:10 flag hoisting. Rajesh came as I was eating, asking for 3 mics. Referred him to Sai Giridhar Sir, who said take 2 more mics and amplifier. So, did that, but was late. "Salaami do" (while the students were saluting the flag) I was fixing the output. Mic cables weren't long enough, so finally only one mic. Kept the 125 (amplifier) in AVC. Did Phy and LA note-taking. Lunch "gala" ghee-rice, aloo paratha, chaat, aloo gobi, raita, burger, vanilla icecream with chocolate sauce, soup. Sai Giridhar Sir telling me to put music after Balaji stopped and went - annoyed me unnecessarily. Then slept till 5:20 pm! So, at night, I couldn't fall asleep immediately. Chocolate milk, from left-over chocolate sauce.
1994-01-27 - Thursday - Physics - Sirs saying we are not taking interest. Umesh Sir's test during 4th hour - correction (of the test paper) only on request. Concentrating on Math as Chem notes are with L. Kesavan (LK7). Recorded Malayalam classical film songs + our singing of songs in Sai Ramesh Hall, the latter for Ruchir Sir. "After long searches here and there", got Vijaya Sai Sir ("No time, no time to search") to give me the cassette of the latter, under pressure from Ruchir Sir. In this work, study hours no concentration.
1994-01-28 - Friday - Only Awareness and Narahari Sir's Chemistry class. But didn't study properly in the other classes. Sanskrit - Sir said I should write all the points for Bhasa's authorship. Chemistry practicals - attendance at 2 and 3 o'clock - slept for 10-15 minutes in Awareness room, did a little Fourier. Study hours - copied Fourier answers from textbook, M. Srikant had it, of course. Saw a beautiful Biochemistry book by Voets.
Narahari Sir - many bunked as they came to know that there would be no Physics and Chemistry for Mid-Semester exams. So, he took attendance - "Tell your friends they are not required to attend my class hereafter. In case they are taking Chemistry major, they are not wanted in my class next year also" - with a big grin on his face.
1994-01-29 - Saturday - The only class was English! He gave notes on G. M. Hopkins. Sanskrit - just plain talk, no study. Did Fourier problems in the morning. But by evening, boredom crept in, and wasted study hours staring at "Bhasa - a study". Rajesh Singh's proposal - he'll give me cassettes to last me a week, so that I'll tell everyone, 'I'm stocked up for the week, come next time' - he'll again give cassettes so that "horrible stuff" (meaning music which is not to his taste, like Skanda Shashti Kavacham :) is not put. Anyway, he had his way today, putting "Mata ki bhent" instead of Carols '93, which annoyed the owner Raghu Ram. I had told Rajesh to ask Chaitanya (1st year) for permission to put his cassette, not knowing RR was the owner. Anyway, apologies always patch up - so I did that very thing.
1994-01-30 - Sunday - Recorded Shankarabharanam for AVC instead of sleeping after Suprabhatam, forgetting to brush teeth in the process. Did Fourier, Chemistry, Sanskrit, not Math 401, till 3:30 pm. Then solid LA. Finished up to last chapter by study hours. Slept in the afternoon, newspaper, serving. Subramanyam Sir said, "Do problems," while serving dinner. Doing them in my mind. Evening music - many want their cassette to be put - BVC, Balaji, Rajesh Singh, Shyam Sundar, Sundaresan Sir - each vying with the other. Rajesh proposes a monopoly by him, to prevent boring cassettes. Along with Ankur of first year, another boy also now in AVC - C. Sriram. Wrote nice bhajans which were sung today (first lines) in pad, to sing during holidays - plan to do it every day.
1994-01-31 - Monday - Read LA, finished off just before 9:25 am bell. Prayer in the Math lecture hall itself, with newly varnished chairs rid of graffiti. In the middle of the 2nd answer, essay, blanked out. Relaxed, attempted next point, could complete everything in the end. A bit untidy, though. Swami's pen wrote. Yesterday's precedent - slept, i.e. lay down today also, but couldn't sleep. So, had a bath instead. Yesterday also, bath just before serving, ie in the afternoon at 12:30. Did precious little in Sanskrit. Only one essay. Read the I Act in Sanskrit in the evening, in the solitude of the music room (AVC occupied by BK and co.) Night - just read the essay once. Wrote the essay in the evening (Trivandrum drama's authenticity and Bhasa's authorship of the plays) - minimum 20 points, 4 sides in mini writing. Study hours - just listened to BK, Siki, Naresh and Girisha discussing. Chandrasekhar is also a loner like me - ends of the spectrum.
