1994-02-22 - Tuesday - Read Sportstars in Gopi Sir's (Brindavan Physical Director) room during Games. Taking bath after breakfast seems somehow wrong. Must try to avoid. Pingali's seminar on multiple reflections was good - confident. After Math 401, asked to submit assignment. Waiting for him to take it, and then listening to him as he talked about meeting Prof. Balasubramaniam made me late for Chemistry. Ravi Kumar Sir, so I didn't wait after my knock was unanswered. Went to Physics lab for record, Jain Sir called me for a chat over coffee/milk respectively. He wants to minimize Physics boys (i.e. students who are opting for Physics Hons. major during 3rd year - the majority of our MPC class wanted to opt for Physics due to not wanting to take M or C). Shailesh Sir's PhD - Registrar says it's on Education and not Physics - may be dropped. "Why don't you study on your own, taking exemption?" "Yours is the only interesting class, Sir, and the others would feel bad: it would be taken as egoism". Ravi Kumar Sir asked me to show him today's notes before next class and get it signed. Afternoon - at last could go to college and sleep there (for a few minutes), head on table as Swami suggested. Wrote a postcard to N. S. Anand (classmate in Parthi XI-XII) as he didn't get any letters. Math 402 thorough washout as Sir blanked out. Sanskrit discussion of Bhasa's innovations, of course useless. Then bath, toilet, Physical Chemistry from Castellan, bvp and ivp (Math 402) definitions, Golden Instrumental. Instead of prayer talk, video of Swami in Brindavan, Kodai, Ooty, Parthi. Sai Giridhar Sir roothe (was upset) as I decreased TV volume before putting Jalota bhajans and not vice versa. Costume room kept stool for college AVC TV. Day was quite hot. Sitting straight writing Physics record by bed on chair to get height.

1994-02-23 - Wednesday - Got up today at 4 woken by Swami - I had asked Him last night. Very prompt. Wrote Physics record. Ravi Kumar Sir was shyly standing inside his room wrapped in a towel when I knocked to show him yesterday's notes. So, later, forgot. Math classes now sheer waste - he just brushes through the theorems, "No need to write notes", doesn't allow anyone to do other subjects or sleep, either. Physics practicals - Umesh Sir was irritated - none of us had shown results to him. Also, records. Then, boys bungling in experiments, not knowing what they're doing. NVP had returned yesterday from home (father fracture) so he needed tutoring. Our spectrometer for finding μe, μo for quartz was too small - the polarizer was touching the prism table. Somehow did. No total extinction of ray by polarizer - may be a partial polarizer only for yellow light. Did Math assignment in study hours after evening Sankarabharanam. For a week, bhajans are being recorded for music boys, as they are using keyboard, guitar, etc.
1994-02-24 - Thursday - Woke at 2.45, but slept again as I thought it was too early. But didn't wake again before 5. So, I should've done some (record) work when I got up. Moral class - debate on "is India more dependent after independence?" GD, M K Ajay, Chidanand Reddy, Satish (Putta) spoke well - the other 5 flopped. After half Maths class went on the debate and Sir muffed on transparency zooming, told him about his mistaking of taut string for vibrating string, also not to go so much into extraneous matter. So, afternoon, he stuck to syllabus, zoomed in LA. Pingali concluded seminar - not as impressive as yesterday's, still good. Did Physics full time - studying with "scribble pad" effect on a notebook bought for the purpose. Took "Dune Messiah" by Frank Herbert - (Myth?) Hostel Library. Bath while Brahmarpanam was to ring, as had to review "Lata's songs" CNS cassette and Rajesh Singh's santoor cassette was liable to get over at any time. Felt "out of grace" compared to yesterday. My own actions. Wasting time seeing Rajesh's cassettes, talking in Moral class, listening to BK's exposition on Prasad Sir's foolish actions.
1994-02-25 - Friday - Once again I'm behind schedule. I'm writing this on Monday. Let's see if I can remember. Not very heavy. Chemistry practicals - preparing hexaammine Ni II chloride - very easy. Just add ammonia, go to library to wait 30 minutes, filter out, weighing tomorrow. Didn't even weigh out NiCl2 properly as it is contaminated with water, so approximated. Forgot to go to Stores and buy my long list. Buds for AVC (head cleaning). Jogging (games) sat out under the stairs, reading "Dune Messiah". Similar to Sandeep's conception of Swami. Sees future, but can't avoid it without greater calamity. Finally he gets his heir to the intergalactic religious empire, turns blind, goes to the mercy of the dune-worms by the ancient Fremen custom. Returned (the book to the library) in the evening after finishing it.
1994-02-26 - Saturday - Narahari Sir said he'll finish in one more hour. English - "Myth". GD wanted to do 5th hour in 4th hour (Language), so we 3 Sanskrit boys missed the class. At the end of it, he showed half of "Aliens". I had to get VCR back and forth. Night film "Ninja turtles". Did Math and Phy. Ravi Kiran got some things for me from stores.
1994-02-27 - Sunday - Last "social work" of this year. (In Brindavan, Sunday mornings are kept aside for "social work" on non-exam non-festival days.) Went to college, leaving dining hall speakers un-straightened, to change transistors in the 125 EMs. Venkatraghavan did that while I watched - 3055 power transistors, very short life, apparently. No heat sink compound etc. Body is collector, NPN. Changed 3 3055s in 2 amplifiers. So both are working now, except for some potentiometer problems. Couldn't go for Physics practicals (got breakfast from kitchen at 10) as Umesh Sir was in sound sleep. So did records. Wrote A3 letters etc. Writing all songs taught into a pad, i.e. including school carols. Evening - bought things Ravi Kiran missed out. Video, photos of Swami in plastic cases, stickers.
1994-02-28 - Monday - Breakfast Idli Vada Sambar was improved by having Sambar vada and solid chutney for idli. Only Physics class of consequence. Awareness, Language, Chemistry - all light. Awareness exam next Sunday. Language - must study. Chemistry - must refer books and notes. Sundaresan Sir wanted AVC stabilizer for some new equipment. Asked Ruchir Sir and got it for him. He said he'll give it later, whenever Sai Giridhar Sir wants it. When I told SGS this in the Hostel at 4 pm, he said, "Tell Sundaresan Sir we want it at 4:30 for Budget recording." "I think he's at college, Sir." "Yes, he's at college." So, walked back. He had just finished testing, said, "Sai Giridhar went off. I think we've finished." Waited till 4:15, then went to Hostel for AVC keys. SGS said he had sent the keys with NVP. While returning, SGS sent me to Eng dept to get the VCR. Then gave a notebook to give BSVS. Took it as a test from Sai. Took Lawrence Durrell's "Stiff upper lip", Gerald Durrell's "Vanishing Ark", "Islands of Truth" (Maths) and "Portable Conrad" from College, "Robots" and "Guruvayoorappan" from Hostel Library. Study hours - did only two theorems, Rajesh Singh and Shivaprasad + Pavan's autograph book spoilt the rest.
