Was in Sai Ramesh Hall (SRH) till 9:30, then Nandagopal Sir said we'll wind up, so returned. Slept till 5 am, as Sunday, thought would have time to do my pending work. No AVC work in Self-Reliance time (Sunday mornings at Brindavan used to be dedicated to Self-Reliance work, i.e. working on the Self-Reliance departments we're associated with. In my first year, it was College Library, and later I was with AVC. AVC might have stood for Audio Visual Committee at some time, but the etymology was not very clear by the time I joined.) So, cleaned entrance corner of room wall with soap-water. Ravi Kishore (roommate) swept cobwebs. Slept siting at table at 2 pm, thinking "only 10 minutes", but continued till 3 pm! 1st bell! Tea was at 2:30, as Swami was coming out early, to let Parthi teachers go back early.
Photo during Altar competition 1994, when Swami walked by each altar, posing for pictures, talking a few words. Caption in my album is: 25 Aug 1994. Kalyanamantapam, Brindavan. Room A1. Mr. Gangadhar Shetty. S Mahesh. Vishnuvardhan. Hari. Sampath. Ravi Chand. Nithin. Sairam. Ravi Kishore. Ram Nishant. O Srinivas. Mahesh Karwa.
Rajesh Pilot came and went 4:15 to 4:30. Nandagopal Sir, not S. G. Sir, as he went to city. Sevadal confused me saying didn't come. Inside Trayee, I was just behind Chaitanya, he had 1.1 place. Rajesh Pilot delay helped us wind up even K'Mantap. My eyes burned - could not look at Swami during discourse.
Study hours spent in writing speech for tomorrow - Sanjay Sahni Sir told me to be ready. Finally, 9:30, (auditioning in his room) my delivery was terrible, it was too personal, too. "Right thing, right time, right person is required." So, the ultimate diplomat let me off the hook. (So, in the 30 years since this incident, I've only read out Summer Course summaries, given academic seminars and such, haven't given extempore talks on general or spiritual subjects.)
