Got up for Suprabhatam. After first hour (of college, I went for) UK balvikas rehearsal mics at Kalyanamantap. Swami had said, "Be ready", so the Art boys had got the Art Gallery ready and were waiting. (Didn't come). UK - South Indian group this time. 7 names of Ashtothara, scenes dance drama, background bhajans with seamless integration - not even Shruti change between bhajans.
In the afternoon, while on "guard duty" for the amps, idea struck that the stage lights + amps will trip the K'Mantap MCB. Told maintenance BVS & Vishnu to lay new line from generator, they finished just before Swami came. Swami had called boys to Trayee, then program. Last moment - connected OHP to new line. Bhajans in SRH (Sai Ramesh Hall) before that - last moment, Hostel mics. Since the snake box was upside down, connected the other way - so singer went to 6th point. Swami came out, "Put better songs" for instrumental - funeral type, went inside amp. room. I ran to test mic connections. S. G. Sir screamed at Chaitanya - get connector - as singer mic was not coming through. Near the end of bhajans, generator went off, not changed over to KEB - ran. Running to get mics to SRH, from SRH to K'Mantap, testing, etc.
Finally Swami came (to K'Mantap), since curtain blocked, couldn't see Swami. So, instead of watching them, sat and listened to the music. Since I said "Program would be a flop", "It will trip" etc to maintenance boys, both turned false. (I have a superstition that I have the opposite of "karinaakku" - meaning that if I say something bad will happen, it won't.)
Swami, Anil Kumar Sir were bubbling over (very happy with the program.) In the end, photos, Lokassamastar! Swami jumped down from stage, promptly shushed everyone, chain for girl who played Satyanarayana Raju, all cried, threw roses to many ladies, "Shame, idiots" to boys, Thursday at SRH, video all over India.
