2021-01-03 - A fairly drastic change in my daily routine

Till September 2020, You had kept me fairly insulated from family responsibilities. Though I would help parents occasionally when visiting them etc, most of my time has been spent in 'work' which could be indirectly helpful to others, or in 'leisure' which is mostly not. When we had planned for my parents to shift to Prasanthi Nilayam in March 2020, I had thought my routine wouldn't change too much - perhaps visiting them for an hour or two each day instead of the daily phone conversations. But You had other plans.

Covid-19 postponed our parents' relocation plans. Covid-19 also disrupted Mother's physiotherapy routine. So, in mid-September, she had a fall and was hospitalized, unable to move her hands and legs. The next day onwards, I joined her at the hospital as her carer, "working from home" with NNR's laptop and mobile internet. With steroids and physiotherapy, she regained some gross movements over the next few weeks.

Come December, parents and I could shift to Prasanthi Nilayam - a 13 hour drive in an ambulance. And now, the caring for Mother continues, with the added responsibility of making sure Father is also comfortable after the shift.

You made sure that I could spend adequate time with parents by having the Planetarium closed due to the pandemic. And I could continue to do the "working from home" as well as be available for parents when they ask for me. Many people have remarked on my good fortune on being able to directly serve parents. And I can now appreciate why it is said that 'a woman's work is never done'.
