(from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi4qMG5wVpc )

Summary of Discourses given by Swami to students from Kodaikanal, Apr-May 1991, delivered at the school assembly by Sri Sai Surendranath.

  • Col. Joga Rao asked Swami the difference between enquiry and discrimination. Swami replied that collecting facts is enquiry, interpreting them is discrimination.

  • Somebody asked why the world is seemingly so topsy-turvy. Swami replied that it is God's creation. Babies come out upside-down. Lefties as spin inside womb.

  • Love - this is that universal principle that makes us see unity in diversity, transforms the cruel into sattwic ones, and enemies to friends. If we work with the power of love, we will always succeed. Worldly love is prompted by selfish motives. This is the difference between worldly love and selfless divine love.

  • Another name for Prema is Dharma.
    Another form of Dharma is Prema.

  • Dharma is having values. Of the many qualities, the best is Dharma.
    Dharma eva sadaa moolam.
    Dharma eva mahaa moolam.

  • Many think that Dharma is a code of conduct, Neeti. There are two Dharmas
    1. Para Dharma or Guna Dharma - pertaining to body - when chaitanya is captured by ego,
    and
    2. Swa Dharma or Atma Dharma - when chaitanya is captured by God. Only those pure actions which arise from the Atma.

  • Energy is that which makes us do all activity. We get this energy from food. We should use it properly. Eg. young sadhu and old sadhu contrasting reactions - young sadhu said, if he doesn't get food for one day, will say God's grace is absent. Old sadhu said, will say God's grace is great, because I was not getting food, senses weaken, and I can control them easily.

  • Four defects of speech
    1. Untruth
    2. Excess
    3. Complaining
    4. Criticism.

  • For realizing divinity, know this first -
    Doing == Body
    Experiencing == Mind
    Being == Atma

  • Atma is Brahma, which is infinite, which is love, which is God, which is love. Therefore live in love as love is God

  • Life x ∞ = God
    Body x ∞ = Viraat
    Mind x ∞ = Hiranyagarbha
    Therefore, infinity = love = God.

  • No man is devoid of love, but misdirected

  • Vibhishana - Hanuman. If don't do God's work, no value for worship.

  • Dharma is not blindly following Sampradaya or tradition. Eg. Purohit put cat under basket without knowing the reason behind it, for Sathyanarayana Pooja - really meant to prevent the cat from soiling the greens.
