From my 'Swami photo albums' - Kodai 1992-'93.

1994-03-03 - Thursday - 6:45 AM - went to college for setting up AVC TV, VCR. Sai Giridhar Sir didn't turn up, so we couldn't do that until 7:30. Then also, only English Dept. VCR. No generator - not starting - low voltage, stabilizer not coming on. Finally decided to play without stabilizer, only spike buster. Drama (presented by the English department during the Thursday first hour Moral Class) had cuts to eliminate students' scene where I was supposed to be. Songs, "By the rivers of Babylon" etc, Poems, Drama took the cake. GD's ingenuity in throwing away beard and saying "Old age, hair loss" - Student Nandalal goes and asks for refund of tuition fees, then teachers make him pass "re-exam". Hilarious. Afternoon - ferrying VCR, cassettes - 15 minutes late for Physics Suresh's seminar on reflectances, TIR, etc. Math portion "officially over", except for "fine-print" - unfinished minor stuff. A3 letter came open. Tampered with? Couldn't collect registered letter as postman left by the time I returned with mics etc. Wrote AVC + number on all cassettes, wrote in book - till 10:45 pm.
1994-03-04 - Friday - Played shuttle, beating NS Anand in singles (did he purposely lose?). Last day of games. But whole morning went in bath, sweeping, etc. though no zero hour - couldn't study for Chemistry viva or Awareness exam. Sanskrit class translations without Commerce boys. AWR class - Chemistry old papers, Chemistry class (free) read "Electronics for You" from library. Read for Chemistry viva while walking to college - written viva, then prepared hydroquinone diacetate. Didn't measure accurately. So, if I get good m.p. --> Chemistry is topsy-turvy. Till 5, got ready to study AWR. Was reading "New York" in pictures at Library till 4:15 after practicals (completed) by 3:30. Then Sundaresan Sir hijacked me, for getting things ready for video show of Swami at Bhajan time. 5:30 - Venkat and I got VCR from Commerce dept. also, they dubbed some parts from Bhatia's collection, put everything in order by 6:29. RCA to double RCA cable being at the college, used phono to double RCA instead, only one RCA worked, finally when Swami was speaking, saying "Rat - see" etc, failed - increasing volume lead to roar when I switched off VCR. No presence of mind - I should've let the TV speaker work instead. Wrote Chemistry record during study hours, feeling sleepy with AWR. Guruvayurappan book is good - history and stories about temple. Listening to "Instrumental College" and writing its cassette cover + diary --> 11 o'clock to hit the sack instead of a planned 10 o'clock.
1994-03-05 - Saturday - Jogging concluded with latecomers getting medicine ball treatment. Subrahmanyam Sir wanted to show 1st years some video. Checking if VCR was in AVC and keeping key back, was late again for Umesh Sir's class. Had to stand outside till he "noticed" me - so I went up to him and explained. No Chemistry, English --> 'The Second Coming' of Yeats. "Savitri" is still left. Afternoon - rice paper sweet + mixture. Anil Kumar Sir's daughter's marriage. Ankur reports, 'Flowers came from Swami's photo, Swami gave Rs. one lakh saree.' SG Sir wanted BK and me to shift TV to AVC, no car. So tricyle. TV stayed on it as it careened across the ground, piloted by Vasu. BK didn't slow him down, so he shot off. Sanskrit translations, then AWR. Took "World of Math" 2 volumes, as not allowed in holidays and only by Nandagopal Sir's special consideration I got them issued - costly set of 4. Did AWR till 5, then explained to Chaitanya why UCR's rec button does not go in without cassette, he recorded some songs to test UCR, the Pranava cassette etc - time, precious alert evening time, wasted. Study hours also AWR. 2.5 chapters out of 4 completed. Ankur did headphone soldering. Chose books to take from library for holidays - Raguraman, BK, Sudhakar, Praveen - (gave me, or I bought for them, greeting) cards (I presume).
1994-03-06 - Sunday - Morning went in preparing for AWR400 - usual exam scenario. Finished around 9:30 am, then tinkered with CO-30 Deluxe stereo amplifier SSH-AMP1. Ideas of repairing, taking it home with permission, etc. Castles in the air. Sat in the last row for exam. Swami's pen wrote fluently, came out 15 minutes early - ie. didn't take extra time, finished in 1.5 hours. Tinkering with the Cosmic amplifier - power transistors + input side gone. Afternoon read "World of Mathematics" till 3, then slept telling BK to wake me for tea. He didn't, rather Raguraman's efforts were in vain - so finally conscious at 5. So, doing Physics practicals out of the question. Found later that Shiva Prasad had also slept, and the other batch had done practicals. So maybe by sleep, Swami saved me from that, and other dangers too. Study hours, as film Ekalavya (Telugu) was being screened, sat in AVC and continued tinkering of CO-30. Actually only after this did I realize the futility of it all, and decide to stop.
