Condensing multiple days into a single post.
1994-04-06 - Wednesday - Got up at 6:30. Anch (sister) had been telling me about Anoop (her future husband) etc. I told her something about You. Finally around midnight when slept on 5th.
Pumped air, got a valve-tube for the bicycle. Tested out the intercom phone to patients. Diarrhoea. Saw Ajay's slide show cassette. Quite hot, frequent power failures, too. Amma (Mother) wanted to go for some condolence visits, Achan (Father) didn't want to go. So, I was chosen chauffeur. Achan first said no to my taking the car through the YMCA junction, agreed in the end, maybe seeing Amma's crest-fallen face. No problems in the drive. Mr. I. V. Menon, Amma's friend; daughter died by falling into Pacific Ocean from husband-captained ship. As Amma stayed till 7, could drive in the dark, too - another wish fulfilled. Driving without Achan reduces the tension.
Saw Chaitanya drama (VHS video). Tried to make the NUSHI lantern's bulb light up without the reflector, something went wrong. Hope it gets all right by charging.
Anch talked again - mostly I was telling her Swami's stories as G. D. told us.
1994-04-07 - Thursday - Got up at 6:30 again. Anch called, got up soon - not like "Paata vaasanaalu" (old habits, in Telugu, in Swami's words). Went with Achan to Nirmala & Rajendra as chauffeur. Opened the NUSHI in the car by Achan's suggestion, found only a fuse (2A) had gone. I must have shorted it yesterday. Beautiful design. Afternoon - slept till 3:30 - 2 hours instead of half an hour. Then went to city on bicycle to buy components for Kshitij's amplifier and fuse, too. Back wheel flat on Mavoor Road when I came out of Electo World. Walked till SM street, asked for nearest cycle shop, behind Tip Top fancy land. Then, cycled all the way to Oyitti Road for 1 ohm resistor, returned with butter from "Choi's" by 5:45.
Thangamani Aunty had come, her mother, too - very happy to see me.
Too late for Samiti Bhajan, so bath and our own bhajan. 7:30 to 8 pm is power cut. Flash unit as recharger, mercury lamp, car radio's RF interference - all these + Kshitij's amp - are left for me to do. Didn't touch "Lectures" today, supposed to start by 100 pages. 8.20 to 10 TV - video of Anveshanam, Swami's Unity Concert, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Turning point live. Wrote this, slept.

1994-04-08 - Friday - Getting up at 5 didn't help, an unhealthy start was provided last night itself. So, bath + shave etc till 6, not appropriate for Suprabhatam. Excision of my corn at Rajendra - went driving the car at 8, sat in the car after a needle prick for sensitivity, finally, 10:50 local anaesthetic 3 ml, two shots, gouged out by Achan. I was lying in a green mundu only on the table. Tight bandage couldn't let me use accelerator and brake, so Achan drove. Slippers for Amma + coffee, when the corn was given for biopsy at Vindhya (near new overbridge). One way road around Mananchira + garden / path. The leg is reasonably painful, can't bear to put weight on it, also must keep the right leg at a height for 'venous drainage'. Antibiotics twice a day for three days. Evening bath putting leg up on bucket + plastic cover & elastic. "Man maila aur tan ko dhoye" as the song goes. Haircut at home. Amma's comment to barber, "വൃത്തികേടാക്കരുതേ" ("Please don't make it ugly") provoked Achan's ire. Again, for sleeping, he wants fan in speed 1, too slow for Amma - upset. So, tomorrow onwards she'll sleep in Anch's room with cotton mattress.
Read and finished Maire Mullarney "Anything School can do you can do better", "Microverse" some SF stories, 50 pages of "Lectures", waiting for Achan in the car at Rajendra. Saw "Dekh Bhai Dekh", Chaitanya drama. Madhusudanan uncle came for dinner, overnight. Heard the headphones - good - my right ear is weak. Marriage at the circus people's house - music blaring at night.
1994-04-09 - Saturday - 6:30 am today. My leg made Amma and Anch let me sleep, I think. Unfortunately, putting plastic cover and all that didn't help me with my problem. Read Feynman in the morning, soldered in the afternoon and Bhagavad Gita in the evening as per schedule. But I'm not Master at home, Mister. (This is paraphrasing Swami, who would say that we should be Master of the senses and not someone who Misses doing that.) Life at home is much more challenging than Hostel life, due to the complete absence of temptations in the Hostel. Of course, controlling the mind can be done, but the spirit has to be willing.
1994-04-10 - Sunday - Quite a tamasic day. Got up again at 6:30, huddled up in the cool morning - rain every night and more this morning. Read newspaper after breakfast, then cartoons on TV, soldering after lunch. Slept when I tried to read Gita after completing Kshitij's amp soldering. Sleeping at twilight - that's what made me feel the tamasic-ness. Then, my sickness - actually, it's itching. Not figuratively. Possibly due to misuse. So, tomorrow onwards, a new start. Going to hear music, see Your photos, at 4 o'clock. This morning, Achan changed the dressing on my leg. Quite painful. But now it's loose enough for me to drive.
1994-04-11 - Monday - Chandramana Ugadi - so Ugadi day had a good start. As planned, saw Your photos and listened to carols. Was driver for Achan. Read Feynman lectures. Changed dressing from Rajendra - not as painful as yesterday's first change.
1994-04-12 - Tuesday - I'm a regular feature at Nirmala now. Then Rajendra, changed dressing.
1994-04-13 - Wednesday - Went with Achan to Nirmala; sitting in the car and reading the "red book", Lectures, quite hot. So, turned sour. But decided to make up for that by hard work. Bought firecrackers, soap etc from Therattil during the drive. Thangamani's Ravindran had come. Afternoon went to buy components - got almost everything from one shop on Oyitti Road! PIONEER box Rs. 65. Then, whole evening spent in buying white paint, painting Kshitij's amp, making power supply part of stereo amp (using two 500 mA transformers in parallel). I had got the 741's pinout from Malvino, it troubled me for some 0.75 hour. Recorded Yesudas' "Archana" from TV on to audio tape through audio out of VCR. Gokul (chettan) (second cousin, studying Engineering at REC Calicut) came for the night, his exams next week. He came for Vishukkani.
1994-04-14 - Thursday - 4:15 Vishukkani in the dining hall. Then crackers in the porch - only 10 minutes for Rs. 75/- worth. Showed Gokul my scene in the drama. Amp (stereo) work. Forgot to "wake You up" today also, mustn't tomorrow.
