1994-10-18 - Tuesday - Chaitanya Madhura Bhakthi

With Chaitanya's disciples - "leper Sanatana" is on extreme right - Nov 22 1993 at Hill View Stadium - from my "Swami albums"

Thou art the ruler of minds... (an allusion to the Indian National Anthem) OK in SSP (Solid State Physics exam) too. Your pen wrote. But in retrospect, I'm not happy with today, as You wouldn't have been happy - reading RD afternoon, evening also whiling away time - sort of release. Reading "The Greatest Adventure" also. Then, in the evening, an idea - why not do namasmarana as likhita japa or something when I don't feel like doing anything ...

SRH (Sai Ramesh Hall) - You went out for darshan - called a group for interview - told us in Trayee they were old devotees, flight tonight, invitations for Nov 19-23 program. Watching You move with feet coming out while You walked - nice. An impression stored.

Trayee - I saw "Living Divinity", read over shoulder, "Swami is really mod, appeared in dream in all sorts of clothes - tights, bell bottoms, etc, even only dhoti so that she could see the Sreevatsa." That was to please that devotee, to confuse me, You came as on that dream. Your test, reflection, reaction, resound of inner being. Shall overcome, only by prayers to You. As Mr. K said, keep saying No to temptations, till they stop bothering you.

A chance wasted in Trayee - You asked, "Any questions ... any answers ... " No one spoke. Then, "Who was mother of Vishwamitra?" I didn't raise my hand, didn't want to shout, lost opportunity. After asking mother's name, Swami said, "What is the use ... must learn of such noble souls ..."

Sachi devi, Jagannatha Mishra. She had 10 children, poor thing, eighth died. 9th one, Vishvudu, had distaste for Samsara and went into Sannyasa. Told mother, what have you experienced, tell me ... Only senses pleasure, then misery. Mother was forced to say, I was happy when they were born, miserable when died. That is my fate. .... Even though she said all this, senses didn't leave. Senses are very bad. She got pregnant for the 10th time. Father was studying law at Navadweepapura. Mother-in-law dreamt of a Noble soul, Daiva amsa, saying will be born to daughter-in-law, send her to Navadweepa. 10 and a half months, still no delivery. (You made Anil Kumar Sir say pregnant, no euphemisms). Finally, on Phalgun night, born without even mother noticing! Such was his birth.

Gouranga - that was the villagers' name for him - Nimai was his mother's pet name for him. He played pranks just like Krishna. A man and his wife were sleeping, he tied their hair together! Pundit's son's tuft tied to tail of calf, made calf run! Used to dance when ladies sang - not Da Da Daa Da Da Daa Da Daa Da Daa song, but Narayana nama! Parents who had kept him at home fearing he'll be spoilt, were scared at this dancing - what will happen to his future - put him under a teacher. Aged 9. Used to ask questions to his teacher, ... of what use studies ... He who made me born will take care ... Hari Bol ... Men resisted, women and children followed, a rag-tag crew, but sincere.

Bengal had two parts, Vanga and (North). At the age of 9, father passed away. Mother pleaded to stay and look after, agreed. At 16, she made master plan, got him married to Lakshmi. Good girl. But cholera came, she died. Then got him married to Vishnupriya. When he said he wants to go, Mother thought magnet of wife would pull him, but no. She gave up food and drink and died. Chaitanya had reached Kancheepuram, Madras etc  when got news. Returned to serve mother, who died soon. At Kanyakumari, people refused alms as "he wasn't allowing youth to get married and have dozens of children" - disciples complained of hunger, he said Hari Hunger, Sing His Glory - as they danced, forgot hunger ... After last rites of mother, went around. At age of 42, ran into sea saying I'm merging in Prema Sagara - body never found.

Histories not given properly - he used to cry 'Aah!' and fall - Krishna had pulled his hair. Pinched cheek - would be seen red. Used to dance - even atheists who came to scoff, stayed to pray. Pranks like Krishna, danced like Radha. So, Radhakrishna - amsa. Today, Hare Krishna people imitate. But his was from the heart. Nowadays, men and women dance with shaven heads, after a week, get married - what Harichintana is this? Advertisement in newspaper, Rs. 2000, marriage for a week, a month, etc! All this is vanishing, like Diwali flowerpot. Study for steady.

Jayadeva also Madhura bhakthi. They had personal experience - practically taught. Because of such great ones only, India has at least this much Bhakthi now.

Suka - Brahmachari - extolled Gopis to Parikshit, who doubted how physical love could give liberation. "O madman, you have only seven days, and are such a Doubting Thomas!" Even if you consider dirty canal water, drainage water, when it merges with the sea, it becomes one with the sea. Krishna's love is infinite - so when small love is added, becomes part of the infinite. Eg - 10 tumblers of milk, if one tumbler of milk is added, that also becomes milk. Whichever is greater, it assumes that form.

Janaka also wanted to attain Moksha like Parikshit, in 7 days. He asked sages, how fast can I? Yagnavalkya said, if you give me Mind, Vak and Body, (mano vak kaayamulu), can give liberation in the time taken to shift from one stirrup to the next. Janaka agreed. Yagnavalkya took Janaka to the street, told him to sit down, close eyes. Did so. Yagnavalkya went off. Didn't open even when the Queen came. Finally, Yagnavalkya was summoned. He told him, "Raja, see, Rani has come" - saw, etc. OK, now mount this horse - as he put leg on stirrup, got Moksha. So easy, but impossible if life after life no unity of Thought, Word and Deed, hundreds of births.
