1996-06-22 - Saturday - advantage of being in Prasanthi Nilayam

Photo of old Brindavan (I believe) from Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam - October 28, 2025

1996-06-19 - Wednesday - Sikka sir not to continue (I believe he was still waiting after his PhD, and it became clear* that he would not be inducted into the Physics Department as a lecturer), details not clear - S4 talks of pay commission etc. - Shailesh sir & S4 to take PHY 904, practicals Brahmo / Patnaik (who were in 2nd MTech at that time.) I've to arrange books in department, select columns from "unpublishable research", repair electronics lab equipment. Full study hours (was spent) on one thermodynamics problem.

*I believe there was one occasion when You asked about him at Mandir, but he was not available, was in the lab or something like that. And then some comment from You about him? etc.

1996-06-20 - Thursday - Morning skit by I MBA/MFM - short & sweet - Nachiketa - Rajagopal's brother (Srinivasan, who was later to become my roommate for more than twenty years) directed. Mr. Balasubramanian, then UNIX - C++ library searched (Xerox copy) for in/out functions from ports, didn't get addressed one. Afternoon sat & read "irreproducible results" in central room. Dinner - basmati rice! All thrashed (meaning that all ate well, in Hostel lingo) - had to cook again. Matlab with (my juniors in 1st MSc) Vishnu Thumma Ravinder DAK after Thumma repaired tap - I closed valve outside... Study hours diary...

1996-06-21 - Friday - Morning practicals again just setting up, seeing on digital oscilloscope, etc of Heterodyne Polarimeter. CC last class. Another man from AT&T next month... Afternoon tidied lab a little - Shailesh sir was there - verified experimental principle with Sikka sir, power went, so I too left. Library, then slept for half an hour.

PG results - CSNK solid state flunk (meaning that he failed that paper and would have to retake that exam this semester), PSN highest 4.86, myself 4.81. (meaning that P. Sathyanarayana had the highest GPA or grade point average in our class in the previous semester, of 4.86 / 5.00.)

1996-06-22 - Saturday - Most of the day in college was fruitless - C++ whole day, bugs everywhere. Speakers from foyer & one white 100W for evening program in (Hostel) quadrangle. SAK & DAK did most of the work. I had rasam rice just after discourse, sat & operated (the PA system audio mixer for the program in the Hostel) ⇒ not tired. Songs, skits. 8:30 pm to 9:45 pm. Initial trouble (while testing) of a short(-circuit) - saw that a long portion of "silk wire" insulation had melted.

You're going to (College) Auditorium tomorrow, to talk to MBA/MFM/MTech as 10 years of MBA ... S4 mentioned ATP (Anantapur women's campus) wrote to You (You told him), to shift their campus to PSN (Prasanthi Nilayam), as they want to hear the (daily) discourses - "advantage of being in PSN!!" (And I had the good fortune of being in Brindavan during the period when You stayed there from 1993 to 1994, too, with the daily Trayee sessions ... )
