1996-06-23 - Sunday - Went to lab after morning prog., just read "Irreproducible". Got locked in as Sikka sir left & later Patnaik locked. Opened with spanner, went to School Hostel & left Milonni for Shailesh Sir, got key from Pattu, locked lab. Evening after discourse P.C. M.P. Balvikas prog. - haphazard, but at the end You gave shawls to all 200!
Morning when You were going to College to talk to MBA/MFM/MTech, called VC - "Go fast" - he ran stiffly - You slapped his back as he passed...
1996-06-24 - Monday - Morning took speakers back with SAK & DAK - 6 AM - with trolley. S⁴ GUI on Matlab. Optics practicals, good waveform after bandpass filter… but we need 2 amps! After evening prog. went to lab & wasted time watching Srini on Wordstar - also tested one oscilloscope & one function generator.
Deposited 2 cheques - 2000 scholarship, 101 Anch’s 1st stipend (1650). (The scholarship was from the government due to good performance in the school leaving exam, and was being sent to me annually till I 'finished my education' - so I got it till I got my MSc. The Rs. 1650 stipend was for my sister who had joined as a house-surgeon, and she had sent me Rs. 101 symbolically.)
1996-06-25 - Tuesday - Two continuous hrs of KVR, then slated S²! Today he didn't take, but Tuesdays will be stressful. I wrote diary in free hr of SS. Polarizing beamsplitter instead of glan laser prism ⇒ two outputs, but one photodetector failed… Evening Patnaik didn't come to lab, so got cello tape in vain.
1996-06-26 - Wednesday - Tomorrow Bhajan Antakshari in Moral Class. Whole afternoon free as S² didn't come & S⁴ didn't want to start in Rahu kaalam. Got stabilizer (servo) from Planetarium, tried C++ (C actually) port i/o. Shell programming by Indrajith, tomorrow also.
In Mandir - difficult to increase gain (during the daily speeches and Discourse) due to ringing, most probably due to the 2 horns 7.5 & 10W respectively.
1996-06-27 - Thursday - Anmol & Ashwin compered Bhajan Antakshari - good - novel items like starting on Shruti (musical note), singing in different taalam (beat) etc. Stat Phy not yet - still in Thermodynamics. (Meaning that we had not yet started the syllabus of the Statistical Physics course, the preliminary thermodynamics basics were still being taught to us.)
1996-06-28 - Friday - 4 o'clock itself diarrhoea. By 5 am, sure serious, slept through. Only rehydration mix input till dinner. Morning in → out almost immediately, just the water. Dizzy by 11 am. Slept till 2, tossed (meaning that I tossed a coin to decide on my course of action, whether to go or to take rest) & went to Mandir. Buttermilk rice ⇒ much better. Dr. Anil Kumar's suggestion ⇒ had black tea decoction of Rangarajan sir (+ vibhuti).
1996-06-29 - Saturday - Again slept thru till ~7, refreshed, O/P black! By afternoon, stabilized. Compu lab – default is Bourne Shell?! Whole afternoon wasted on C shell syntax errors (from Bourne shell!?).
1996-06-30 - Sunday - While Mr. Hostel competition was going on, tried seeing 286's bus waveforms on oscilloscope. Speed & triggering probs, so trying with CS logic. After Discourse, Prof was there ⇒ he felt happy about lab oscilloscopes etc. Movie "Outbreak" of some disease in Africa etc. (ugh). Spent time talking to Srini, Sikkivahan, Subba Rao (Swami's water had a fruity taste as they kept it in fruit stall chiller).
1996-07-01 - Monday - Only Vishwanath sir’s class - S⁴’s Hardware project / Matlab. Optics also, problems of noise.
Coming (to Hostel) after lab ~ 7.30 pm, then food ⇒ am late for study hrs, also room doesn’t get swept.

1996-07-02 - Tuesday - Shailesh sir couldn’t start as he came late, binding his synopsis. So “took” class for me, just talking about lasers.
Morning saw the phase shift when put HWP in Mach-Zehnder & saw on oscilloscope (birefringence measurement). Going around telling Ashwin about recording difficulties, Prabhu about (foyer) playing difficulties, collecting BONUS (biscuits) from Guru Subramaniam, etc. ⇒ (it was) 8.30 pm (when I) reached (the Hostel) room. Then diary & Suprabhatam attendance ⇒ (it became) 9.30.
1996-07-03 - Wednesday - Sri Lanka PM (Sirimavo Bandaranaike) came ⇒ curfew on road morning, only boys allowed to go / come from college. Mandir all tense. Damu & I couldn’t go in (into the bhajan hall, for recording the Discourse), sat near Vedam boys. Car (bulletproof Ambassador) came up to interview room door & Black Cats formed human wall. Could hear You slapping the back of her (son?)
S⁴ was delayed ⇒ boys went off as he’d said he’ll take 5th hr (Shailesh Sir’s) so S2 couldn’t take. Finished Journal of Irreproducible results.
