1996-11-02 - Saturday - No speakers job for the present as we're out of glass wool. So, morning to evening at the library. The Dewey Decimal System is jumbling up optoelectronics in the middle of electronics and electronic circuits... Washing in the evening, plus took untitled book (V. Balu's?) from hostel library and listened to Sudhakar Pant's woes "due to Shailesh Sir" in too much correlation between "Swami talking & getting numbers" (to sing).
1996-11-03 - Sunday - "Glory of Puttaparthi" (V. Balu) + letter to A3 (parents and sister) + M&A (maternal grandparents), Readers' Digest + RD Treasury of Wit and Humour. 10.15 to 11.45 pm saw cricket - India vs Australia in triangular Titan cup (Mohali) - won by 5 runs when Tendulkar bowled one ball of last over. P. Sathya and others going for Chitravati swim every day - in trackpants! Gave 2nd batch of clothes to tailor for repair. Temperatures are quite low now - clear skies ... Slept at 12 due to cricket and RD to wait for crowd to go in dining hall, so can be sure of waking.
1996-11-04 - Monday - Once again 9 am to 3 pm library - electronics section half-way done. Mandir, V. Balu's 'Glory of Puttaparthi' (? - no cover). Hostel RD Treasury of wit and humour till 2, when I slept. Sai Mahesh woke me only at ~6 am, so slept for 4 hours. Again, dinner was with reading.
1996-11-05 - Tuesday - Shyama (Prasad) & Anand came, tripling our room population. Morning, finished 'The World of Mathematics' selectively, returned it and took 'Walden' & 'The Moon and sixpence' at 1 pm, worked till 3 pm. Read Walden at Mandir, Moon & sixpence after bhajans till 11:20 pm (Shyama and Anand covered up and slept by 9:30). Last night in dining hall?
1996-11-06 - Wednesday - Again 9 am to 3 pm ⇒ library work over. Now it's up to Mahalingam Sir (librarian at that time). Cyclonic storm at Vizag, so clouds ⇒ not as cold as before. India won Titan cup beating SA in final at Wankhede Stadium, over by 10:30 pm [35 runs]. Saw the last half hour again, also overs 10 to 15. Even the News wasn't U-rated - Miss World competition in Bangalore ...
1996-11-07 - Thursday - Unexpectedly, no cleaning (of the Physics Department, since today was the first day of the next semester)! And no Prof till February. QED instead of 1001 and 1004 seminars. Sainath Sir Molec. Phy, AV QE&P (meaning Vishwanath Sir would take the paper 'Quantum Electronics and Photonics'), KVR Nuclear Physics, KBR Energy Resources: Sharing with S4, 1001 MS shares wth KS. Prof Sood of BHU will introduce Nuclear Physics. Prof gave 4 books on QED etc! as Shailesh Sir stared.
