1996-02-10 - Saturday - You returned to Parthi

Photo from a 2014 pocket calendar - one of the Birthday processions in the 1990s, I believe

1996-02-03 - Saturday - KBR's no practicals as exams were going on there - Additional English. Evening - cracked the bug in 2-pass assembler - needs a space before any instruction. Next 4 sessions testing on all practicals.

KVR gave me the key to the mic storeroom in College, shouldn't give to anyone, student or teacher. After hearing from Srinivas that "Roman Holiday" was very funny, went to watch. Becker winning Australian Open + comedy short exam bungling. "Roman Holiday" introducing Audrey Hepburn! Delightful movie - Queen escapes for 2 days with the commoners (Gregory Peck). Finally he doesn't sell the story.

1996-02-04 - Sunday - Writing (this diary) on D-floor near sodium vapour lamp, as Rohit Gour is unwell and the "bhajan hall" room is closed. Morning - slept on desk 45 minutes 9 to 9:45. Sleepy with record. Wrote 1-2 pages only - then went to solder wires to jack in (Hostel room number) A4. Newspaper and Wodehouse took some time too, as did letter to A3 (parents and sister).

Cleaned our room with mopping - Satya joined me in cleaning fans, so all joined. Slippers outside from now on, etc. Altar removed for new altar to come ...

1996-02-05 - Monday - Prof saw Satya & I (gone to get Satya's observations, practical notes from lab) - saw him asking me a QM (Quantum Mechanics) question - immediately brought his notes & gave, talked for 20 minutes. We don't appreciate his good points ... Evening - Sikka Sir out of station - we did microprocessor practicals. Made an organ with it, tested printer. Thermal paper from Chemistry lab. S4 has to be present whenever we're using the computer, says the rule - so, he tells us to buy our own! Resisted the temptation to write to A3 about this. Study hours - C++.

1996-02-06 - Tuesday - Optics practicals - playing around with Lotus and DaDisp trying to plot our graphs. Prof's zero hour tomorrow. Vedas program scheduled for Moral class (first hour on Thursday) -  today Muralikrishna, tomorrow I have to go for their practice at 7:30 pm.

Why not use graf.cpp to plot?

Naren Sir gave those of us who worked for the (cardio-vascular) conference, surplus bags (Skybag) hush-hush at 5:30 in Institute Auditorium. I was late, Sai Mahesh gave me!

1996-02-07 - Wednesday - Prof's zero hour, Sikka Sir's 6th and 7th hours. Spatial filtering by us and launching (light into fiber) by Vijayanand + GV Rao + Srinivas done with spectacular success. Auditorium practice of tomorrow's Moral Class program on Vedam - 7:30 to 10.00 pm. Actually half-hour program, practiced twice. Out of mood 8:30 to 9:30 due to delays, etc. All channels just left open - no work to be done except taking RCA to phono for echo box.

1996-02-08 - Thursday - Moral Class program on Vedas - good. Muralikrishna did all the work ...

Evening, after song practice (Swagat hai Sai Ram ka) bought cassette and recorded Shivkumar Nagesh singing it at ~10:30 in music room. Met Shailesh Sir who had come for the recording. Told him fluctuations in phase change. Forgot to tell about speakers instead of horns.

1996-02-09 - Friday - Sikka Sir marathons - morning class for II MSc repeated for I MSc 1:30 to 2:50, again class 3:30 to 5:00 combined. Some II years are writing GATE, so cutting class. Writing C++ ...

School is getting four 30W Bolton speakers (woofers) Rs. 300 each. KVR had taken mics + amplifier + rec to Ad Block as instructed by VC to talk to 10 BEds (!) and had left nothing in foyer "to teach them a lesson". But good excuse for me to bring down Samsonix & ASM850 mics.

1996-02-10 - Saturday - Afternoon classes cut - Mandir - Swami came (back to Parthi from Brindavan.) Gooseneck (mics had) better bass than other mics! (Institute foyer, for singer.) C++ project over, on paper!

Going to Mandir, passed Primary School (waiting outside) - hum (of conversation) audible, no hum near teachers at gate.

C++ mini-viva after bhajan, 6:30, at Institute.

Read Microprof. Basic manual during study hours. Can be used!
