1996-05-31 - Friday - Mic / amp / speakers were put by Venkataramaniah Sir himself. So when VC spoke (unexpectedly, in the foyer session at College) I didn’t have trouble (since I would have been operating the PA system). Whole day rearranging & cleaning (Physics) dept. Shailesh Sir, Sikka Sir & Vishwanath Sir in a separate partitioned space. Fan fixing, extension making, tube fixing. Tired by night.
1996-06-01 - Saturday - Work in Phy Lab contd. Mostly fixing extension boxes. Night - wrote letter. Kshitij (batchmate in commerce / MBA / MFM) could find time to talk about Kodai - welcome song practice. (for singing when Swami returns to Parthi).
1996-06-02 - Sunday - Room-wise social work. A16 (our room in the Hostel) in Sai Nandana (garden in the Hostel quadrangle) 6 to 8 am, then we left Saroj & co to their devices - they left the pond to dry & cleaned it in the evening. Mostly emptying pond & catching fish was our work. Read some of RD "They beat the Odds" (P. Sathya’s) in C-14, got Windows programming book from Veerachandrasekhar, MTech. in the evening. Chairs - Sathya & I have new ones.
1996-06-03 - Monday - Jogging / Suprabhatam attendance sheet is the same, as jogging is roomwise! UNIX for us (2nd MSc Physics students) and not Windows programming. Sikka Sir is taking QED & Photonics + parts of Computational Techniques & maybe Statistical Physics, too! And practicals for both 1st & 2nd MSc, also for Shailesh Sir! Comp. as usual we'll take "tutorials" for 1st MSc.
1996-06-04 - Tuesday - QM first class, then practicals all the way, as Sikka Sir didn’t take morning class. Read Advertising library book when power failed. Buy Verdeyen? After P. Satya & C. Satya (my partners in practicals) left for their match (mundu cricket - in Hostel parlance, cricket played in a more informal manner with a tennis ball was called mundu cricket) at 3, finished digitizing oscilloscope manual by 6 pm. Prof. gave 2 jobs - beautifying the extension boxes & writing an assignment on Lasers in spectroscopic notation. Room leaders’ meeting - guest room. (As briefly noted in the last line of the 30th May diary entry, I'm a room leader for 1st MSc students in room A16.) S4 (Warden) also sat down (on the floor, along with the rest of us)! 1996-06-05 - Wednesday - Awareness class - notice board groups. Sainath Sir wants exp set up too. Afternoon finished extension boards. Set up 5 mics for tomorrow with KVR @ 3.30. Very tired. Heat exhaustion? So slept till 5.45 (resting my head) on (hostel) cupboard desk. Read some UNIX as SAK (my junior in PA system work) agreed to go for mic practice of freshers - tomorrow's program (in college auditorium, 1st hour Moral class on Thursdays). Fruit Stall – putting a line in lawn for bakery items. Rain. Power failures etc. phase looped, so no fans till 10.20...
