1996-08-09 - Friday - Morning got the 80 MHz "2nd order" of AOM, transferred to hard disk of the AT. Afternoon 901, 902 & 903 seminars allocation + much talk. Idea of AOM fed by modulated 40 MHz ⇒ signal transmission demo for MBA day, Aug 21 exhibition - tried Kshitij’s ampli-speaker & found too noisy. If necessary, can use PA system amps...

1996-08-10 - Saturday - The Matlab 386 extended memory seized up (one location not good ⇒ HIMEM.SYS not loading…). Idea of using AOM for sending amplitude modulated signal not feasible - too much noise at kHz freq - phase noise. After 1st hour, found meeting @ 2:30, Hostel - "Swami told Registrar He’s leaving today or tomorrow…"

1996-08-11 - Sunday - Afternoon tried LM386 amp - 10 MHz oscillations. 50 μF to ground solved that. Distortion when increase amplitude - because of 4 Ω speaker or power supply? RAM backup for ESA 85 complicated due unknown pinouts etc. Shailesh Sir cleared up Yariv's ambiguities (AOM). Seminar writeups etc. Tested discourses eleven a.m. from college - OK.

1996-08-12 - Monday - User Interface for Unix - shell project. Assignments, project writeups, seminar writeups, record, Onam editing of "magazine", RAM backup, LM386 - all together ⇒ "eating my brain". Seminar OHP sheets writing (is going) on…

1996-08-13 - Tuesday - Argon ion laser - found power decreasing with time till it cuts off by overheating. So, its beam waist measurement was waste. Prof. embarking on ambitious QFT/QED course. Intro today…

1996-08-14 - Wednesday - Awareness class - Satya's presentation (why so much festival expenditure) was v. good, Krishnamurthi’s interpretation of "the bird with you, the wing with me" etc. was OK. Seminar write-up for QE & P (Quantum Electronics and Photonics) tho' headache, was (sentence was not completed in diary).

1996-08-15 - Thursday - Morning 6 (went to) Institute to set up mics & tape rec., after (Indian Independence day flag hoisting) program, 7.40, Mandir. Slept 11 to 1, refreshed. LM386 amplifier (Kshitij’s) "repairing" after dinner (evening program till 8:10 pm, Balvikas from Germany) ⇒ night prayer in C-24. Decreasing gain to 20 from 200 solved all problems of "motorboating" and capacitor to gnd at output is cutting the RF oscillations.
