1996-08-22 - Thursday - Hardware - slow progress. Vishwanath Sir to to go on leave for around one week. Seminar topic fluctuations for me. "Quarks & leptons", v. readable - really! (Hazlen & Martin). Backlog - Onam article writing, editing, reading QE&P (Quantum Electronics & Photonics), Statistical Mechanics + QM (QFT) from "Quarks & Leptons", record writing, projects - hardware & software.
1996-08-23 - Friday - Did calibration of Babinet (that's all). PSN seminar & QE&P papers - 38 - just scraped through.

Comp. Tech - not yet. (These are the marks I got for the mid-semester exams, which are out of 50. 38/50 is just above 75% needed for O grade on that paper, I guess.)

1996-08-24 - Saturday - Morning hardware - ADC malfunction? PSN’s laser system seminar. VCO with 555 - 5 V supply ⇒ Δf ≈ < 10 f. TRIAC triggering by fast gate voltage change (using 555!) by Aditya & Gunaranjan? Wrote discourse 3-line summaries during study hours while Apollo 13 was being shown.
1996-08-25 - Sunday - Don’t remember what I did! (Writing this on Thursday.)
Onam (പൊന്നോണ മലരുകൾ) magazine editing, etc.
1996-08-26 - Monday - Found breadboards, ADCs (!), many other things, dumped in Optics lab - a dead mouse, too! So, Babinet compensator had to wait. Bath in the evening…
Then a night out. Magazine editing, writing T.T.'s article (Casablanca), contents, etc. till 10.30, Kagdee binding, then (working) for noticeboard articles till 11.30 pm or so. Then, sticking Swami’s pictures in magazine LHS, 2.30 am. Moral support for Sivaraman in finishing card (Rajendra magazine cover & card painting). Damu നിമിഷ കവിത (instant poem) for card while പൂക്കളം (making the floral carpet was) going on… 2.30 to 4.30 arranged cupboard, washed clothes (if I slept, I wouldn't wake up!) waking others… 5.30 am went to mandir. (I got to sit in the) second row as (I was supposed to perform) Arati - kumkum Arati - kumkum on plate, with camphor in the centre.

1996-08-27 - Tuesday - Thiru Onam - Morning pancha vadyam, thimila by 10 year olds. Slokam, songs (chorus all sang). You went around once, dry fruits prasadam. Then from Hostel bun & rice & chutney - classes from 9.20, I slept. Lunch പഴംപൊരി (fried plantain) & chips & പാൽപായസം (milk pudding) were hits. Stomach slightly upset (from yesterday) so not much intake - by evening OK. Study hrs sleepy - so couldn’t complete Prof’s notes from CSNK.
