1996-09-18 - Wednesday - Permission to use Dr. KVR’s monitor, so last night + this morning tried to interface to the 286 (i) directly (ii) using 74125 buffers (iii) using 8255 PID. All failed. By night the 286 also wasn’t working. Now tomorrow I’ve to go & check its connections. Couldn’t find the "Computers in Physics" issue where using printer port for I/O is discussed.
After Ganesa immersion clapping & singing, aomewhat tired. But not out like yesterday. Sent cards for A2 (Father and sister) b'days in the afternoon. Sainath Sir says no discourse plans till exams end, then possible Brindavan trip.
1996-09-19 - Thursday - Habbu sir’s speech on Kashmir - discovered the 50 Hz hum is due to lack of amplifier grounding! Whole day practicals - Thu & Sat are the good days! Took printouts (Matlab) & found amplitudes of peaks of FFTs (signal analyzer exp.). Morning had seen HDD controller failure ⇒ S4's computer down, due to 8255? Arranged (a little) the journals in lab. Evening took xerox of 0805 data. Finished hardware project writeup (as the computer’s down…). (Got) the photo Satyajit clicked of our altar. (It's present on this page.)
1996-09-20 - Friday - After A.V.’s class, went to computer lab & gave finishing touches to UIU shell software project. Afternoon also there - trying to get printouts. Finally, Indrajith transferred our files to DOS format with ftp & copied onto diskette for printout + "exam" tomorrow. Writing optics record…

KVR sir showed me his 486 & told me I could use whenever I want!
1996-09-22 - Sunday - Afternoon in getting Pathria & showing DSN our computers. Morning read "Display Electronics" - a 30 dB LED VU meter circuit… Evening, before discourse, saw "Fluctuations" in Pathria (seminar).
1996-09-23 - Monday - Except for Vishwanath Sir’s class, whole day for S4 - morning UNIX - calculator working & afternoon soldering the ADC. Mandir and study hours record. 6-7 pm wrote Signal Analyzer theory from lab. Now only LHS & AOM theory is left.
Morning, saw the 386 is giving mem errors all over extended memory even after loading WIN.
1996-09-24 - Tuesday - Shailesh sir sick in the morning, but evening explained longitudinal & transverse modes - he finally took antibiotics… Record writing… I MSc projects still on! Achan’s letter - he’s getting a Maruti 1000 within a week… You told me to ask him about buying a computer.
1996-09-25 - Wednesday - Last day of class ⇒ VC spoke (lightly), put all P.A. equipment upstairs with SAK + classmates' help. No other classes as Prof went for S4's & Umesh sir’s review - they were in the dept till 11 last night…
Took a day off after submitting record + AWR term paper - read "Thursday’s Universe", Feynman's QED & "Sai Glory" - not Statistical Mechanics. "Sai Glory" - Glorious book… Sri Lankan, no author's / publisher’s name. Mrs. Sahni's story, mostly.
1996-09-26 - Thursday - Morning 4 to 8 finished "Thursday's Universe", then Stat Mech seminar prep. Prof wants 6 hrs more! Dirac, D'Inverno & "Subtle is the Lord" from library, 'just for show'… Study hrs found true extent of QE & P! (Quantum Electronics and Photonics paper).
1996-09-27 - Friday - Morning 4 seminar writeup (stat phy). S² gave Verdeyen back. DSP silence is golden, but told Prof 5 classmates are against QED II, board of studies ⇒ can’t do optics related, μp work… Prof wants me to meet some IISc big shot ( ). Short discussion on future plans, again no MTech, but PhD ready… Schiff others' seminars notes… Verdeyen S4's quite a bit skipped… and he’s sick! Fever.

1996-09-29 - Sunday - Darshan time, struggled & did a little Pathria (seminars) note making. Afternoon slept ⇒ only finished that by night. Made list of all books (academic) I have here - 18.

1996-09-30 - Monday - Morning S⁴ gave Comp. Simul. book - afternoon 1:30 P. Satya (Multimedia), then I (Ensemble Monte-Carlo) - seminars over. Evening, writing the writeup. A³ letter - Maruti 1000 hasn’t yet arrived. Aquamarine green!? They’ll come for Pooja… letter wrote back…
